Joshua "Josue" Ortiz Jr.

On Saturday, April 25th Joshua reunited with his loving savior Jesus Christ, his parents Rev. Josue and Maria Ortiz, and his brother Caleb Ortiz. Joshua was born in Saginaw Michigan. Joshua was a kind and charismatic soul who loved people and loved life. Life was never dull around Josh. If there was a good song playing, he was tapping his foot or dancing to the music that moved him. Josh was rarely seen without a smile on his face and a quick witted joke to make you laugh or smile. His mercurial nature was sure to keep you on your toes and laughing. Joshua loved sports, he was Captain of the soccer team at Layton High School. He also coached several youth soccer teams. On the weekends you would find him in church and watching football or soccer. Anyone who met Josh would tell you what an amazing and genuinely kind man he was. If you needed a helping hand or a kind or comforting word, he was there. He believed in loving and caring for people. An ordained Deacon, Josh sat and prayed with many in need including those who were in their final moments of life when nobody else was around. During the AIDs epidemic Josh didn’t run away, instead he ran to those in need. Holding hands and praying with the sick and dying as he knew Christ would. At the age of 18, during the Vietnam War Joshua proudly joined the United States Army and became an MP Officer, serving for over 5 and a half years. He was promoted in rank to Sergeant during that time. Joshua then served in the Army Reserves for 11 years, serving during Desert Storm and The Liberation of Kuwait. During this time Joshua also served his country simultaneously as a civilian at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah as an aircraft parts supervisor and painter; painting parts for the: OV10 Bronco, F4 Phantom and F16 Fighting Falcon for 4 years. Then the A10 Thunderbolts for 8 years. During this time Joshua was also hand selected to be part of a team that restored and performed corrosion repair and prevention on multiple planes for the Hill Aerospace Museum in Layton Utah as a subject matter expert. This included several special projects including the Navy Blue Angel C130 Super Hercules “Fat Albert” and U.S. Air Force B1 Lancer Supersonic Bomber. After retiring from Hill Air Force Base Joshua served the United States Army again as a civilian Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor restoring Army EMD GP9 Phase II Diesel Locomotives for 4 years. Over the years Joshua owned multiple interior painting companies. In his retirement he became the founder of Houston Superior Painting. He was always looking at the beautiful colors and textures around him. Josh would find creative and unique ways to bring the beauties of God’s world into someone’s home. His motto was “If you’re going to do something, make sure you do it well.” Those were words he lived by. He brought ingenuity, quality and hard work to everything he did. If you asked Joshua what his greatest life’s joy and accomplishment was, he would tell you it was being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. At the age of 31 he welcomed his first daughter Cally into the world. Three years later he welcomed his youngest daughter Rashell. Life grew and contained more dancing, more singing and even more smiles and laughter. Josh’s daughters became his world, and that world grew with the addition of step children, grandchildren and his great grandson. Each one brought more joy, light and love to his heart in their own unique ways. For each of you he lived his life; for each of you, you became the lights that lit the path of his greatest joy. Joshua is survived by his loving daughters Cally (Charity) Judkins and Rashell (Dillon) Layton. Stepdaughter Melissa (Russ) Newell. His grandchildren Jeralea, Payton, Addison, Aiden, Kylee, Audrey, Landrie and his great grandson Atlas. His siblings Becky (Dwayne) Wiley, Rachel (JD) Smith, Danny (Teresa) Ortiz, Abel Ortiz and all of his nieces and nephews and his dearest friends who became chosen family. Joshua will be remembered by his hard work, heart, laughter, free spirit and charitable nature.Through each of us his story and the fire of his legacy will continue to burn for generations, becoming a light unto the world as he lit all of our hearts.
