MRS. DORIS ANN STUCKEY - MARCH 28, 1929 TO JANUARY 30, 2016 Mrs. Doris Ann Stuckey (nee Beckman), 86, of Tomball, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Park Manor of Tomball Nursing and Rehab Center. Doris was born to Fred Henry Beckman and Martha Sophia (Decker) Beckman on March 28, 1929, in Pilot Knob Township, the Cordes Community, Nashville, Illinois, where she grew up as the youngest of eight children born to her parents. Doris was confirmed in the evangelical faith, attended primary school, and graduated high school in the same community in Nashville, IL. She continued to serve as a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ throughout her life. Doris is survived by: her daughters, Marsha Rodgers (James) (TX), Teresa Dimick (Gary) (TX); sister, Talitha Evans (IL); brother, Fred Palmer Beckman (KY); grandchildren, Michael Rodgers (Michelle) (FL), Beverly Smith (David) (TN), Tonya Estrada (Peter) (IL), Sarah Moyers (Greg) (MO), Daniel Neeley, Jr. (MO); ten great-grandchildren; and one great-grandson; nieces: Jacque Roberts (NC), Amy Shonstrom (CO), and Barbara Guignon (MO); Nephews: T. Scott Evans (MO), Fred Beckman (KY), Kent Beckman (KY), Phillip Beckman (LA), Rodney Leach (ME); along with numerous great and great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. She married twice: the first, in 1949 at St. Louis, MO, to Billy Leach of Poplar Bluff, MO, three children were born to this union: Marsha, Teresa, and Neil; in 1973, she married Ben Stuckey of St. Charles, MO, with no children being born to that union. Doris’ first job, having been trained as a dental assistant, was for Dr. Shirley, a dentist in Nashville, IL. She moved to St. Louis, MO, by 1949, where she furthered her education and career as a medical assistant, medical transcriptionist, EKG technician, insurance specialist and medical receptionist for three doctors in St Louis. It was during the 1960’s she was employed by Dr. William C MacDonald, cardiologist and gastrologist in Clayton, MO. In the early 1980’s, Doris moved to Texas, choosing to live closer to her daughters, where she continued a successful professional medical career working for doctors, including Palm and Williamson at the Park Plaza Medical and the Houston Medical Centers. Doris retired from the office of Dr. Hammond in 1987. During the earlier years of her retirement years, she lived in Abilene, TX, working as a part time volunteer at the Hendricks Medical Center. She also worked for a florist on the Dyess Air Force Base delivering gifts and flowers part time to the hospitals. During early 2000, Doris relocated to Tomball, TX and lived out her retirement in the community, where she enjoyed family, friends and the agreeable climate of southeast Texas. Doris enjoyed the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren taking them to reading time at the libraries; to the St. Louis, MO, and Houston, TX operas and plays; planning trips and vacationing in any state, and driving the State of Texas on any given day teaching everyone that state’s history. She also taught her loved ones the art of playing Scrabble and card games. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird and people -watching, loved Bible study, enjoyed coupon clipping -before it was popular, and collected recipes and cookbooks. She also loved cooking and serving a well prepared meal, and she loved a clean, well-organized home, which she always seemed to achieve with great enthusiasm, ease, and efficiency. Her family and friends will forever remember her for her quick wit, the terrific German meals and soups she cooked, and the reminiscent stories she shared of her proud German heritage and her life growing up on the farm in Illinois. Doris is preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Leach and Ben Stuckey; son, Neil Leach; sisters Olga, Ione, and Louise Beckman; brothers, Floyd and Enno Beckman; brother-in-law, Charles Evans; and parents, Fred and Martha Beckman. Doris Stuckey’s family thanks the caring staff at Park Manor, Sunset Hospice Office Staff, and Dr. Chahal. Additionally, the family is thankful to health care professional and friends, nurses Olivia, Demaris, Zuma, Jordan Henry, Lisa Williams, Delores Orr, Chaplin Kathleen, and hospice nurses- Brenda, Bobbi, Pauline and Sabrina for your gentle loving kindness and the excellent care provided.
