Alexander Homer Garza

Alexander "Homer" Garza, Sr., age 81 of Hockley, passed away on September 10, 2017. The Addison family and staff of Magnolia Funeral Home extend their condolences to the Garza family. In lieu of flowers please donate in Mr. Garza's name to the following charities: (1) American Cancer Society or (2) St. Jude Hospital Alexander Homer Garza Sr, Husband, Father, and Grandfather was called home by our Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He began his life in Aransas Pass, TX where he met his high school sweetheart, Irma. After graduation, he headed off to Texas A&M where he quickly found that he was in the Aggie band. He would tell the story that he had to send home for his trumpet. He loved his Aggies. ?Once an Aggie, always an Aggie? he would always say. He came home and married Irma and relocated to Houston to make his way for he and his wife. Their family quickly expanded by one daughter and two sons. He was actively involved in his children?s schools as President of the PTA at all school levels, and in their extracurricular activities such as coaching or helping in any way with their sports of softball, baseball, football, basketball, and scouting where he helped his sons obtain the rank of Eagle. He was very proud of his sons for reaching Eagle and bragged to all his friends about their accomplishments. He loved taking the family on camping trips where he would boat and waterski along with his kids. Homer loved to work and always said ?working hard never hurt anyone?. A work ethic he instilled in his children. His tenure at American Alloy Steel was long and I know if he could be, he would still be there working today. He loved the company and the all the people who work there. He was VP of Quality Assurance and took pride in everything he contributed to the company and those around him. He was recognized in the Who?s Who of Quality Assurance organization. Homer was a kind compassionate man who loved his wife and family and was well respected in the community. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife Irma, daughter Rebecca, son Roland and wife Cindy, and son Alex, along with grandsons Robert, Taran, Hunter, and granddaughters Reagan, Avery, and Addyson. He is proceeded in death by his parents Roman and Marciana and brother Edward.
