Mary Ann Free

October 28, 2020

Mary Ann Free, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family on October 28, 2020. She was born, Mary Ann Lyrock on September 18, 1937 in Magnolia, Texas to Robert “Junior” and Lora Lyrock. In 1955, she married her soulmate, Donald Free. They raised 4 children – Matt, Donny, Lisa and Daryl. Mary Ann worked for the United States Postal Service for 28 years at the Magnolia and Tomball Post Offices. After her retirement, she provided office support for her husband at their electrical contracting company. Her spare time was spent doating over and spoiling her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as their Granny. She was a devoted member of the Plantersville Baptist Church and enjoyed her time with her church family. She was one of the most loving and compassionate women you would ever meet and always had a smile, a hug and a sparkle in her eye. Mary was an encourager and a great listener. She loved to be the hub for entertaining during holidays, always keeping her family close to her. An exceptional cook with specialties including potato salad, chicken and dumplings and german chocolate cake, all from scratch, Mary Ann added many pounds to her family and friends. She also enjoyed canning vegetables from their garden. After supporting her husband in a local community service organization for 50 years, she too became a Lion in the Magnolia Lions Club in 2019. She was extremely proud of becoming a Lion and continued to serve her community even after losing her sight. She will be sorely missed and is survived by her brother, Albert “Bubba” Lyrock, loving husband of 65 years, Donald Free; son Matt Free; son and daughter-in-law, Donny and Candace Free; Daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Free-Martin and Bob ”Hollywood” Martin; and son and daughter-in-law Daryl and Cheryl Free; grandchildren Thomas and Wesley Free, Courtney Wilkinson, Cara Latham and Cassi Coe, Jeremy Martin, Mandy Sparks, Megan Gabriel, Melissa Bjorgaard, Terry “T.R.” Sparks, Britni Martin, Greg Jett, Fiona and Nolan Free; 24 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
