March 19, 2022
Dr. Leonard Phillip “Rocky” Reitzammer unexpectedly closed his eyes in sleep on March 19th, 2022 and woke to the face of Jesus. Although truly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and other family members, church family, friends and clients Rocky’s impact on his community and the memories created will live on in all their lives. Rocky was a teacher at heart whether guiding clients in the care of their pets, teaching his children and grandchildren about God’s creation and creatures, or leading classes in Bible study at his church of 35 years-North Oaks Baptist. Rocky was born in 1950 as the middle child of five to George William Reitzammer and Dorothy Gene Burns from Arkansas. His immediate family lived in West Monroe, Louisiana where Rocky grew up in school and church with Sharon Kay Martin whom he married in 1971. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children and grandchildren last fall. Texas A&M was Rocky’s alma mater from which he earned his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine In 1974. After graduation, Rocky and Sharon lived in Baton Rouge where Rocky worked in a multi-man practice for five years. Following that he established Klein Animal Hospital in Spring, TX with his classmate, friend and would be long-time partner Dr. Thomas Murphy. Although Thom retired in mid-2017, Rocky never planned on retiring and was still actively practicing. Rocky loved working as a veterinarian for 47+ years. Rocky and Sharon were fortunate to home educate their three children and be involved in not only their academics, but their sports, arts, and so many other aspects of their education. This included many trips across the country creating treasured memories that make them smile. Rocky delighted in his each of his children and each brought him joy and pride beyond measure. Rocky leaves behind his wife Sharon, his sons Ryan and Shane, his daughter Sage, and their spouses Lauren, Kirsten, and Matthew. He will be greatly missed as the “baby charmer” and “PopRock” or “Rocky” by his nine grandchildren: Tristan, Juliet, Maverick, Pierce, Emma, Nolan, Elara, Skylynn and soon-to-be-born Kya. He also leaves behind two sisters Sharon Hammonds and Susan Williams, his younger brother Alan, in-laws and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Rocky has now joined his parents and an older brother Bill in heaven. Rocky’s faith and that of his family resulted in a “Celebration of Life” memorial service held on April 2nd, 2022 at North Oaks Baptist Church. If you were unable to attend you may view the service or slideshow on YouTube or Facebook.
