Evelyn Shofner Cloyd, 98, passed away Tuesday June 15, 2021. She was born March 20, 1923 in Campbellsville, KY to William & Maude Shofner and welcomed by her eight older siblings. Evelyn’s life was full of love; loving God, her family, her friends, her church and the Magnolia community. Evelyn and her husband, Forrest Cloyd, put down roots in Magnolia in 1967 and they and their family grew to love and serve the community for many years. Evelyn had committed her life to Christ at a young age and continued that commitment as a life-long member of Magnolia First Baptist Church. She worked for the Magnolia School District for many years then worked for the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce until she retired. During Evelyn’s time at the Chamber, she was honorably recognized as Magnolia’s Person of the Year. At her retirement, she received a flag which had flown over the US Capital from US Representative Kevin Brady, in recognition of her years of service. She also served as Magnolia City Councilwoman for eight years where she also served as Mayor Pro Tem. One of her fondest memories was being honored as a contestant in the Mrs. Montgomery County Senior Pageant in which she wore a beautiful yellow evening gown. Per her wishes, she is wearing this very dress today. Evelyn lived an incredible life and if you were lucky enough to know her, then you were lucky enough to be loved by her. She was known by so many as “Mamaw” because she made everyone feel like family. She will be greatly missed by so many.
