Michael Briscoe Sr.

On the early morning of Monday, April 29, 2019, Michael Edward Briscoe Sr. passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his wife after brave struggle with congestive heart failure. He was 65 years young. Mike was born in Jacinto City, Texas to the late Jack L. Briscoe and Wylie Raye Briscoe. He grew up in Humble, Texas with his late siblings, Debbie Briscoe Schindler and Jack Briscoe. In March of 1972, during his senior year at Humble High School, he met the love of his life, Cheryl Hazell. The two got married at Carrell Street Baptist Church in Tomball on April 14th, 1973. The young couple moved to Magnolia, Texas in March 1975 to raise their family. In October 1974, Mike started his career in the Houston Fire Department. He was enthusiastic about his 30-years as a firefighter/engineer operator for Houston and retired at Station 63 in 2005. He not only loved fighting a good fire, but also cherished the lifelong friendships he made through the years. Mike had many interests and passions, from being an avid collector to enjoying a good video game from Atari to PC. He also enjoyed fishing, would never pass up a trip to his childhood fishing hole at Sargent, Texas. Mike was an old soul who loved music. It wasn’t uncommon during a visit to have him share with you classic tunes from his 200-disc CD player. Mike also loved coaching his son in MYFA football, which later led to being a dedicated fan, watching his grandsons sporting events. Mike was truthful, jolly, and had a great sense of humor to the end. He could start up a conversation with a complete stranger in seconds, whether it be eating breakfast at Whataburger or shopping at Walmart. Mike was always encouraging and never afraid to show his curiosity about anything. He was a generous soul and had an unconditional love and loyality to his family and friends. Most of all, Mike was never hesitant to engage in a conversation about his faith and share his love for Jesus. Mike will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a loving and devoted husband, father, and Pawpaw- a man of great character. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Jack L. Briscoe and Wylie Raye Briscoe; his sister, Debbie Schindler, and brother, Jack Briscoe. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl; his children, Barbara Briscoe Johnson and Michael Briscoe Jr. and wife Kristy Orlando Briscoe; his grandsons, Aaron Johnson, Corey Johnson, Micah Briscoe, Owen Briscoe, and Anthony Rendon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
