Larry McDonald

Larry Wayne McDonald 64, of Magnolia, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. Larry was born in Houston Texas to the late Charles and Wanda McDonald. From an early age, Larry built a life, rooted in family, hard work, and loyalty. Larry entered the workforce straight out of high school. He hired on with Houston Lighting and Power in the 80s alongside his dad where his strong work ethic and quiet dedication left a lasting mark on those he worked with and loved. Larry had a very long, fulfilling career with CenterPoint Energy (formerly HL&P). He retired from CenterPoint Energy in 2022 after 40+ years of dedicated service. During his career, Larry won several safety awards, he also received several awards for being a faithful blood donor. Larry had strong family ties to the Magnolia area. His family settled in Magnolia close to a century ago, and he has resided and raised his family here for nearly 50 years. Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures~ running trot lines on the Trinity River and spending countless hours in the deer stand. Larry loved the outdoors and being in nature, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. To him family was everything. Later in life, Larry rededicated himself to the Lord Jesus and began attending Champion Cowboy Church with his family. Larry was the guy people would go to if they needed something fixed. He was exceptionally talented in small engine repairs. He was also known for his delicious fish fries. He was a lifelong friend to many, an amazing daddy to his three daughters, and a beloved Papaw to his grandchildren. His presence was steady, his heart was kind, and his love was constant. Larry was preceded in death by his mother Wanda McDonald and his father Charles McDonald. Larry is survived by his siblings: Lola Ingram, Charles (Bubba) McDonald, Kay Barr, and Lisa McDonald. He is also survived by his three daughters, Ashley and husband Vidal, Chelsea and husband Cody, and Kaitlyn and his grandchildren: Genesis Manzo, Taya Manzo, Braxton Harris and Hadley Harris. He has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him greatly.
