Joni Werner

Joni Marie Werner, 62 August 12, 1959 – January 13, 2022 Joni passed away January 13, 2022 after a long time struggle with COPD. She is survived by her husband Stuart; daughters & husbands Katie and Jason Morton; Leanne and John Hanna; mother Dee Gregurich; father Earl Simons; Siblings Susan Simons, Michael Simons, Doug Simons and wife Sirleng; Sister in law Tracy Parks and her husband Dan plus Nieces and Nephews from both sides of family. Joni was preceded in passing by her Maternal Grandparents Ray and Fran Seiler & Paternal Grandparents Arve and Olga Simons. Joni was raised in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Graduated High School 1977 in Ladysmith. High School Activities included volleyball and basketball. Attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Worked for NW Bell Phone Company in Minneapolis (Eventually became part of AT&T). She met Stuart at a wedding in 1980 and married Stuart in October 1982 and moved to San Antonio, TX where Stuart had started his career the year before. First daughter, Katie, born in 1986 and Second daughter, Leanne, born 1990. After moving to San Antonio Joni began a career in the banking industry. She became a full time homemaker when Katie was born and was very good at taking care of the family. She did many volunteer activities including PTA President of which she was recognized by State of Texas for her efforts. President of pre-K through 1ST Grade school board at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in San Antonio. Joni actively supported both daughters during with multiple activities including school and club soccer, volleyball & swim teams during Middle/High School years. Joni and Stu moved to Plantersville as Stu’s career brought them to the Houston area in 2016. Joni spent time in the kitchen baking and was well-known for her caramel brownies and strawberry bread. Many years of holiday baking with the girls and their friends that usually left us with more cookies than we could eat. She enjoyed family visits to MN and always attended special events (graduations, weddings, etc). An expert at playing cribbage, including with her mom. They kept a running count on games won which would travel between TX and MN. Joni was generous to everyone and happy for the success of others.
