Joe Salazar Jr

Joe Salazar, formerly 29 years old of Houston, TX, stepped on the mound for his final pitch in the game of life on Thursday, July 17, 2025. He was born in San Antonio, TX, the year the Yankees swept the Chicago Cubs to win their 7th World Series Championship. He began working at the ripe old age of 9 and joined the United States Marine Corps at 17. Joe was transferred to Houston in 1976 during his 30+ year career with Texaco where he earned his Two Million Mile Award. Joe retired from Texaco to take care of his beloved wife Bonnie until her passing in 2011. He then returned to the workforce for the next 13 years, only to retire a second time a mere 8 months ago. Throughout his life, you would find Joe playing slow-pitch softball, which remained a passion of his for over 40 years. When he wasn't on the field, you could find him in his recliner watching various sports on all three TVs simultaneously, usually criticizing every move the Astros' managers made. His greatest achievement was his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was always their biggest fan. Joe never met a stranger and he loved to spend time connecting with people and helping others. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones he called “Bubba”. You would often find him sharing a meal at El Gallo with family and friends. Joe was diagnosed with cancer just 3 months ago and he stepped up and faced this challenge like a true champion. His fight at the end showed his strength and determination. Joe left the field surrounded by his most beloved fans. You would never hear him complain because jokingly, in his words, “no one would listen”. Joe's smile, humor and spirit will be sorely missed and cherished forever. He will go down in the Hall Of Fame as the best husband, father, grandfather and friend. So, to wrap up his final game, as Joe would always say, “See ya next year!” In honor and remembrance of Joe, please dress casual in your best Astros Gear or white shirt.
