Emily Stairhime

A Tribute To Ms. Emily S. Stairhime Emily Irene Sikes Stairhime was born in Gilbertown, AL. She passed away on December 9, 2023, at 90 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Nordan Sikes Green and Amos Wesley Sikes, Sr., her sister, Helen Marie Vinson, and her brother, Amos Wesley “Buddy” Sikes, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Walter L. “Lucky” Stairhime, Jr. and wife, Renee of Navasota, TX, and Steven D. Stairhime and wife, Elizabeth of Waller, TX, and two daughters, Cynthia S. McGill and husband, Patrick W. (preceded in death) of Houston, TX and Patricia S. Voss and husband, James “Jim” of Tomball, TX. Her survivors also include 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews and extended family. Emily spent 38 years working at the Houston Police Department, retiring in 1992 as Executive Secretary serving many Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs over that time and making lifelong friends. The matriarch of her family whom affectionately called her “Granny”, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always providing unwavering support and instilling the values of hard work, integrity, faith, and love. She was an excellent cook, having learned many of her skills from her mother’s boarding house kitchen, and was always happy preparing meals for family and friends, passing those recipes down to other generations. Family was the most important thing in her life, and she provided a constant example of how to live and love each other. Our loss is Heaven’s gain, and she will undoubtedly continue to watch over her family as she has always done. Pallbearers: Walter L. Stairhime, Jr., Steven D. Stairhime, Wesley L.
