Donald Imler

Don was born the youngest of seven, to Rev. Earl Imler and Marie (Bradford) Imler in Lapel, Indiana. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Maurie, Bill and Dick of Indiana; and sister Ruth, of Colorado. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sandy of Houston; Children include, Christopher (Brandi) Imler of Houston; Pam Sweeney (Duane) of Magnolia, and Jenny (George) Bailey of College Station, brother Bob of Tx and sister Marty (Lew) of AZ. Grandchildren include: Cole (Kelsey) Tucker of Katy; Hunter Imler of Austin; Garrett Imler, of Dallas; Chayce Imler, of Houston; Paige Bielamowicz of Lockhart; Coury Bielamowicz of Bremond; Brody and Braden Partee of Houston and most recently great grandson, Beckham Cole Tucker, born April 24, 2024! Don also has several nieces, nephews, and cousins across the globe. Being a Methodist preacher’s son and a member of a large family, Don developed a rock-solid dedication and love of family early on. His unwavering care and appreciation of those he loved was unsurmountable, setting the stage at a young age to provide a life-long and selfless journey until the very end. Don graduated high school in Anderson, Indiana in 1952 and shortly thereafter enrolled in the army, serving proudly during the Korean war. After serving his beloved country, Don attended college at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where he developed a talent and love for the clarinet and graduated with an accounting degree in 1958. In 1959, Don married the love of his life, Sandy Miller, who happened to be…. the girl next door! After marrying and kick-starting his 33 year-long career with Shell Oil, Don moved his young family to Garden Grove, California where he continued his successful career with Shell, ultimately transferring to Houston, Tx in 1976. Don was a charismatic, creative, and giving man to anyone he met. He had an infectious and natural sense of humor that often times, had everyone rolling in laughter. True to his aspirations to love and give, Don put himself last and other’s first, almost to a fault. Don’s favorite past times included golfing with friends, kids and grandkids (tho he always hoped for a much-improved game😊); traveling to Branson, MO with Sandy and close friends Glenn and Veda Goodspeed; frequent long-distance road-trips (whether personal or through his 2nd career, driving for Enterprise Rent-A-Car). Don and Sandy also enjoyed taking adventurous cruises and seeing the world. Don was a man of pure love and devotion, he never met a stranger, never wanted for anything other than to give of himself. Don always put his family first and instilled in his kids and grandkids to be truthful, to love unconditionally and to work hard. He guided us in his quiet way that nurtured our souls so we never had to look elsewhere for love and support. Don has made a lasting impression to all who knew him and though the Angels in Heaven are rejoicing with the sheer presence of him, he will be missed here on earth by all.
