David H. Pyle, Sr.

David Pyle, a devoted husband, father, and friend, was a proud graduate of Conroe High School, where he excelled as a basketball player. On August 10, 1962, he married the love of his life, Elinor Ford Pyle, at Salem Lutheran Church in Rosehill, Texas. Their 63-year marriage was a true partnership built on faith, commitment, and enduring love. In 1963, David was confirmed and made his confession of faith at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Conroe, Texas. He went on to serve faithfully as both Elder and Trustee at St. Mark for nearly 30 years, while Elinor played the organ for Sunday worship. Their shared dedication helped deepen and sustain their church community. David had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. He never met a stranger and loved learning about the lives of those he encountered—where they were from, their occupations, and their families. He was quick to offer encouragement, eager to help others become connected or involved, and always ready with a warm conversation. For 31 years, David worked in the oil field industry with Superior Oil, Mobil, and ExxonMobil. He had a passion for machinery, manufacturing, and hands-on work. After retiring at age 52, he embraced an even more active chapter of life, returning to his homeplace in Iola, Texas, where he devoted himself to cattle and ranching—work that brought him deep joy and purpose. David and Elinor raised two sons, Dr. David H. Pyle, Jr. of Kingwood, Texas, and Dana M. Pyle of Spring, Texas. Their family spent countless weekends surrounded by grandparents, cousins, and their church community, creating a lifetime of memories grounded in faith, laughter, and togetherness. After moving to Elinor’s family homeplace in Hockley, David continued to make daily trips to Iola to “feed the cows,” attend the cow auction—affectionately known as “Cow Talk”—and visit friends and family throughout the area. He remained active and full of energy until just months before his passing, always on the go and always ready to brighten someone’s day. David will be deeply missed by all who knew him—from the rural roads he traveled to the many friendships he forged along the way. His life reflected kindness, humility, hard work, and unshakeable faith. He is survived by: • His loving wife of 63 years, Elinor Ford Pyle • His sons, Dr. David H. My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
