A Life Well Lived Daniel Wake Wheaton 5-23-57 3-20-21 Daniel Wake Wheaton’s journey through this life ended peacefully in his home on March 20, 2021. Dan had a challenging year combating his illness and he fought the good fight, but the cancer claimed him in the end. Dan is survived by his beloved wife Donna Wheaton; his children: Robert Hill, Marilee McCauley, and Ryan Wheaton; his siblings: Lyn McCormick, Terry McHenry, Thomas Wheaton, and Paul Wheaton; and of course, his beloved felines: Cinnamon, Gracie and Dundee. Dan was loved by many. His calm, cool and collected demeanor made it easy to love and admire him. He was patient, kind, and a great listener. He was introspective and thoughtful, with a keen intelligence that shined brightly in everything he did. He looked at life with a sense of humor and always had a twinkle in his eyes. A committed father and husband, his family and his home were his greatest achievements. Dan was fortunate to have many opportunities to travel the world with his work as a senior geo-physicist. Dan never said no to an adventure and was always game to see a new place or try something different. Despite his worldliness, he was most content and proud of the home that he and Donna built. He loved to sit beneath his wisteria covered pavilion with his three cats, happy in his repose, watching the wild birds and listening to the wind in the trees that surround his homestead. He loved nature and was fascinated by the flora and fauna around him. He adored all the pets they shared through the years and was dedicated to the sheer enjoyment of keeping company with his many dogs and cats. Dan was also a rockhound, having studied geology, so the wonders of the earth never failed to fascinate him. With his insatiable curiosity, he spent hours examining and analyzing the earth’s treasure and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with people. Everyone who knew Dan, knew he was a dedicated Dead head. He loved the Grateful Dead and probably owned every song they ever played. In his final days, the Dead played throughout the house until finally escorting his spirit to the afterlife. In Dan’s heaven, he is sitting around with his cats and dogs, and jamming with Jerry Garcia amidst the woodlands and the wild creatures. With his easygoing style he carried himself with grace and fortitude. Dan saw life as an adventure, he knew it was all about the journey. His was a good one. And he was grateful.
