Chris Mays

On Friday, September 19, 2025, Christopher Ray Mays passed peacefully and went to be with our Lord. Chris was born in Houston, Texas to Buddy Mays and Dedra Holland. He was 42 years young! Chris never met a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off of his back if he could. He loved his family like no other! He would spend time with his family and close friends every chance he got. Chris was so loved by all who knew him. He had a deep passion for basketball since he was a young boy. He played for many years at the YMCA with his dad coaching him. He maintained many of those friendships through the years. He played for his school teams and even played one semester in college. Chris graduated from Klein High School in 2002. He was also very strong in his faith. He loved God and turned to Him often for guidance. We feel confident that Chris was running and playing basketball in Heaven right after embracing his loved ones. Chris loved the outdoors, taking trips to Lake Tenkiller (his paradise), gambling at the casinos, and the Houston Texans. Boy, did he love the Texans! He never missed watching a game and called his dad after every single one to get his opinion on how they played. Chris met the love of his life, Erica Hewgley Mays, through a dating app in July of 2010. After chatting online for a few weeks, they finally met in August. They got engaged on St. Patrick's Day in 2011 and married on July 16, 2011. It did not take him long to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Erica was his dream girl! She worked tirelessly to support Chris through his MS battle and he, along with his family, loved her every single day for all that she did. Chris was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007 and thus began the toughest challenge of his life! He maintained a positive attitude and continued to be a funny, stress-free young man. Chris created and led a support group for people with Multiple Sclerosis called "MS After Hours". He was determined to fight while providing a positive example for others. Chris is preceded in death by his mother, Dedra Holland, both sets of grandparents, and his Uncle Robin. He is survived in death by his wife, Erica Mays, his daughter, McKenna Rose Clark, his father, Buddy Mays and his wife Paige of Spring, Texas, his brother, Tyler Mays of Spring, Texas, his sister, McKenzie Cross and her husband Spencer of McKinney, Texas. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Mike Hewgley and his wife Ria, his brother-in-law, Jason Hewgley and his wife Betsy. He was an uncle to their three children, Jake, Jamie and Aly. Chris is survived by his Aunt Suzie, Aunt Kim and Uncle Keith, Aunt Sandy and Uncle Marvin and his cousins, Robin Jr., Brandon, Spencer, Michelle, Wesley and Kolbe. Chris had 3 step-brothers, Larry Holland, Brandon Holland and his wife Leslie, and Jason Holland and his wife Miriam. Chris's family is so thankful that he is no longer suffering or in any more pain.
